Education

A wide variety of topics are available designed for Long Term Care Homes, Retirement Homes, Caregivers, and the general public. Group training, research updates, in-service upon request, elementary and high school programs are available. An annual Dementia Education Day is also planned. Programs and in-services can be tailored to individual requests.

Wandering Registry
|
A program developed in partnership with the RCMP. Registration helps return your family member home safely if they have become lost or disoriented. Small one time fee for identification bracelet and wallet card

Awareness
|
Presentations are held for the general public and community groups during January (Alzheimer Awareness Month) and throughout the year. Awareness also includes information displays at pharmacies, libraries, and community events. Presentations upon request.

Telephone Support
|
A friendly telephone call once a week (or as arranged) to a caregiver or client to provide social contact and support.

Support Groups
|
Come and join others experiencing the same issues as you. Education and support are available to enhance your understanding of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Talking, listening and sharing, help ease the stresses that are being faced. Please call for meeting days and times or click here .

"Social Time" Caregivers' Luncheon
|
Join us monthly for an informal lunch at a local restaurant. Connect with other caregivers who are also dealing with issues regarding Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. Each person is responsible for their own charges.

Respite Program
|
Remember to also care for yourself. trained health care workers are available to provide short term friendly companionship to your family member, allowing for needed relief for caregivers.

Advocacy
|
Individual support is available in our office or in your own home to help deal with issues related to caregiving and coping. A twenty-four hour crisis line is also available. We can also advocate for you on a particular issue or concern on your behalf.

Dementia Network
|
A county-wide initiative geared at making and assuring the best care and practices as it related to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The Public Education Coordinator is a member of the network.

Newsletters
|
Members of the Alzheimer Society receive informative newsletters throughout the year providing updates on current events and issues.

Speakers
|
Speakers are available to provide information about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias to your professional, business or community group.

Resource Library
|
Arm yourself with information. Books, journals, brochures, videos/DVDs and activity kits are available for anyone to borrow at your leisure. Some books may be purchased. We can also access literature in other languages.
